Traditional homestead farming systems, known as ‘homegardens’ are multi-strata agroforestry systems that include small-scale tree-, crop- and animal production in close proximity to the homesteads. They are found in many countries, especially in tropical and subtropical regions [1] (Kumar and Nair 2004) where they are important in the daily lives of people because they provide households’ needs in both rural and urban areas (Kortright and Wakefield 2011).
